Spandrel Glass is a heat-processed glass with ceramic frit permanently fused to the surface of the glass. Spandrel glass is tempered or heat-strengthened making it over five times stronger than annealed glass and more resistant to uniform loading pressures and high temperatures.
Spandrel glass is commonly used in commercial projects such as building facades. Spandrel glass is not generally placed in openings that have any light source behind them due to the fact that the ceramic frit is not evenly applied. If the spandrel glass is positioned in front of a light source the inconsistencies in the application become very apparent.
